Custom built 1/1 scale built 2005

This is a lightsaber that I custom built many years ago to resemble
Darth Vader's lightsaber. 

The hilt is a piece of 3/4" sink pipe. The black surround pieces are PVC that were cut, shaped and placed over the sink pipe.  Windshield wiper blades were added at the rear of the hilt for handling support. I added some screws to the tops of the forward PVC pieces.  I placed a 3watt LED in the end to light up the polycarbonate blade.  A red push button was added to the center of the hilt to activate.  The rear of the hilt houses a battery pack which holds 4x AA batteries.  The rear cap is a sink plug with a loop screwed on.  The blade is a 3ft piece of polycarbonate with an insert of opaque white plastic tubing for diffusion.  The tip is a rounded piece of clear plexi with a silver reflective bottom to bounce the light back down the blade.  The blade can easily be removed for displaying purposes.  I also have an insert I created which can be placed in end of the sabre when not in use to look light mechanical pieces that create the beam. When the blade is attached, the blade is strong enough to actually swing and make contact without damage.
